In partnership with the Gunning Focus Group, Picture House Gallery and the wider creative Gunning Community, Council will be seeking funds from the NSW Government’s Creative Capital grant to develop a ‘Creative Precinct’ in Gunning.
The aim of the precinct is to improve our local cultural venues, increase access and participation by the community and attract exciting touring musicians and artists to play in Gunning.
Two grants are available.
The first (minor) grant will enable improvements to the Court Room such as seating, disability access and replacing the current piano. Our aim is to make it a top rate chamber music venue in terms of acoustics, ambience and comfort – without any detriment to its heritage values.
The second (major) grant will be for significant improvements to the Shire Hall to transform it into a preferred “go-to” venue for regional artists- including from Canberra and further afar. This will encompass factors such as seating, lighting, acoustic enhancements, and building improvements.
The Picture House Gallery, the third major element of the precinct, will be refurbished to ensure it remains a charming and intimate venue for local and touring theatrical performances.
Have your say
Council is seeking the community’s input into the project to help shape what a ‘creative precinct’ looks like in Gunning with relation to these three venues. Please provide us with your thoughts and ideas.
