In Taralga, community consultation has highlighted the need to reduce traffic speeds through town. Also highlighted were road narrowing, planter boxes, street greening, lighting and art sculptures aim to go some way toward traffic calming, as well as contribute to beautification and community wellbeing.
The Taralga Arts Group advised Council on projects, and these will include the installation of a series of animals that have some important messages for drivers of vehicles. Taralga Public School students have also become artists by decorating the planter boxes outside their school, in workshops held by the Taralga Arts Group.
As a result of a selection panel process that involved specific criteria, artists in the Southern Tablelands region have developed sculptures that reflect the character of Taralga. Locals were involved in choosing the two artists, Heidi McGeoch and Al Phemister.
The structures will form an art trail along the Main Street. See if you can find all ten animals! * The public art animals will be installed first week of January 2022.
We would like to hear your feedback on the project!
